Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Atal Tunnel in Rohtang on October 03. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur, Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and Army Chief General MM Naravane were present during the inauguration. 9.02 km long Atal Tunnel connects Manali to Lahaul-Spiti valley. It is the longest highway tunnel in the world built at an altitude of 3000 meters.
The Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh performed 'Bhoomi Poojan' for the construction of a new Calibration Laboratory at Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE) in Manali. Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Jairam Thakur and Union Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Anurag Thakur were also present in the event. SASE or Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE) works for avalanche forecasting, artificial triggering and structural control in snowbound mountainous areas. Calibration Laboratory verifies the working condition of the measuring devices used, while confirming that the laboratory is aware how much "error" there is in the measurement device's reading.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on October 02 visited the 'Atal Tunnel, Rohtang' to review preparations for the inaugural function. He was accompanied by Chief Minister Jairam Thakur and Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 03 will inaugurate the Atal Tunnel in Rohtang at 10 am. Atal Tunnel, at more than 9 km length, is the longest highway tunnel in the world. The tunnel reduces the road distance by 46 kms between Manali and Leh and the time by about 4 to 5 hours.
Mahagathbandhan's CM candidate Tejashwi Yadav lashed out at BJP and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar. Tejashwi mocked BJP saying that the world's largest party does not have a CM face. The RJD leader said if he's inexperienced then why are they using full force against him. "BJP is the largest party in the world but they don't have a CM candidate," he said. Tejashwi added, "I have been an MLA, Leader of Opposition and also held deputy CM's post. My five years of experience is equivalent to 50 years of experience." Earlier, Tejashwi challenged Bihar CM to debate on any of his achievements in last five years. The RJD-led Mahagathbandhan in Bihar comprises Congress and Left parties. BJP-JDU alliance has agreed upon sharing 121-122 seats in the assembly polls. Bihar elections will be conducted in three phases starting October 28. Results of the state assembly polls will be declared on November 10.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched a fresh attack on Congress leader Kamal Nath. This comes after Kamal Nath issued a clarification over his 'item' remark. The Madhya Pradesh CM was addressing an election rally ahead of by-polls. "What has happened to you Kamal Nath? You are 74-year-old. I can't repeat what you said about BJP's Imarti Devi. When we objected, he shamelessly called everyone an 'item," he said. Kamal Nath has been under fire over his 'item' jibe at Imarti Devi. The former CM stated that he had not said anything disrespectful against Devi. Kamal Nath claimed that the 'item' word could be used in different contexts. ECI has also sought a report from MP Chief Electoral Officer over the matter. In run-up to MP legislative assembly by-polls, Kamal Nath referred to Devi as 'item'. Kamal Nath was addressing a campaign rally in Dabra for Congress candidate Suresh Raje. Imarti Devi is also contesting the by-polls on a BJP ticket from Dabra.

The Himachal Pradesh government has decided to resume inter-state bus service from on October 14. The bus service was suspended for nearly seven months to curb the spread of COVID-19. Inter-state bus service will completely resume in phases. In the first phase, the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) is running buses on 25 routes. Services resumed on routes of neigbouring states. COVID-19 protocols are being followed in buses.
The Information and Broadcasting Minister, Prakash Javadekar announced implementation of World Bank supported STARS (Strengthening Teaching-Learning and Results for States Program) project in 6 states in a bid to improve the quality of education. "STARS project would be implemented as a new Centrally Sponsored Scheme, it covers 6 states namely Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Odisha," said Union Minister Prakash Javadekar Cabinet briefing. World Bank-supported scheme worth Rs 3,700 crore aims to improve the quality of school education. The project is supported by World Bank with amount of 3700 crore.
A group of young people pick up garbage on the hills in Dharamshala every Sunday. They have named themselves as 'Dhauladhar Cleaners'. They are motivating local people regarding garbage management and its disposal. Team is educating youth to make the city clean, and their main focus is to work towards solution for pollution. Sandhya, a research scholar, said, "We collect garbage on every Sunday. Our aim is to make people aware about garbage management and motivate them to keep this place clean."
