I'm alicia rubin.

We're digging deeper into those disparaties here in our area tonight.

According to a study done by pediatricians -- children from low-income families are more likely to test positive for the coronavirus than those from mid-class or high-income families.

Dr. jim shames for jackson county public heath says that families in lower income area testing positive for covid-19... is not something unusual.

He says that throughout human history... people who have lower incomes during a pandemic are more likely to contract the virus.

"social disparities amplify public health disparities.

And so if you look at pandemics over the years, its really the disadvantaged who is most impacted.

So its not suprising its just these situations amplify what already exists."

Dr.shames also says that in order to make things better during the pandemic... we need to do a better job at helping people in need.

We need to link public health and socially econmically needs.

They are linked , we need to see that, and i think as a society we need to recognize that helping people have a better life.

Not just helps them but really helps us all."
