Naomi Campbell Breaks Down In Tears At Her Moms Apology: "I Abandoned Her"

Back in 2010, international supermodel Naomi Campbell and her mother, Valerie, visited The Oprah Show for a candid discussion about the many controversies that had plagued Naomi in recent years.

WINFREY: Valerie Morris is Naomi's mother, good genes in this family.Has it been hard over the years watching her struggle?VALERIE MORRIS: It definitely has been very, very hard, but at the same time, just listening to her talking, you know,it's passed over my mind many, many times that she used the word "abandonment,"and it's fair to say that yes, I do feel that I abandoned her.I was 19 when I had Naomi, and I was a single mum, father and mother.I wanted the best for my daughter, and I left Naomi to work to give her a better life, private education because she wanted to be in show business, and I just wanted the best for her.She was my princess and was my only child I had until I had my son.And so, yes, you know, looking back on that, you know, you sort of realize that material possessionsare not the only thing that a child needs, but sometimesthat child needs its, you know, biological, you know, mother.WINFREY: But back to this point, because so many mothersmake this mistake and certainly mothers, many of you here in this audience who have children, you want your child's life to be better than the life you had.You want to be able to give your child everything they want, and you lose sight of the fact that material things, material things, material things are not always the answerand that what every child really wants is you.Ms. MORRIS: Absolutely, absolutely, so Naomi, I am really, really sorry.WINFREY: Let's get a Kleenex.

What are the tears for?Ms. CAMPBELL: I don't know.WINFREY: You don't know?

Let's take a little break.WINFREY: So let's talk about what just happened--a lot of tears.I would like to say, ladies and gentlemen,Naomi Campbell went into the ugly cry here on national television. So the tears are what?Ms. CAMPBELL: I don't know.

Just my mum being hereand her speaking about, you know, of course I understandthe sacrifice she had to make, so for me, I guess, you know,I want to do better.

I want to be a better person.I'm not proud of the things I've done in my life, and I'm striving to be a better person and to find peace.[APPLAUSE]
