So the drop in price for this year could be enough incentive for more people to get out on the road.
This year, triple-a says 97-percent of people who are traveling are going by car.
It says this is because of the coronavirus pandemic.
People are still reluctant to get on planes and use more public ways of traveling.
Triple-a's director, marie dodds says that travel precautions need to be taken this holiday weekend.
Marie: "it is going to be busy.
We are seeing a pent up demand for travel, but you do want to make sure that you plan ahead.
You gotta do your homework before you leave home.
Marie says with the coronavirus it is impossible to plan as you go.
Lodging and attractions should be booked in advance.
