Kristen is off tonight.

The coronavirus continues to spread-quickly- through the suny oneonta campus; 107 new cases in otsego county today.....all suny oneonta students.

The city, and the state, are fighting to keep the outbreak from spreading to the outside community.

Today, the state began rapid- result testing at three sites in the city...and they'll be there for the next three days.

Newschannel 2's joleen ferris reports.

The days of 'no new cases' in otsego county are gone.

Otsego county, just today, is reporting 107 new coronavirus cases....all, suny oneonta students.

.

None .

None 7:56 "we just know that most of the spread took place the first weekend.

We had too many.

One would be too many bout we had a number of house parties that took place on the first saturday night and i knew right then on saturday night we had the potential for trouble, and we did" house parties the city learned about through a tipline set up before the semester started, where people could report things they felt were a risk to public health.

In response to the suny oneonta outbreak, the state, today, set up three rapid-result test sites for those living in the city.

Maddie place had good reason to be tested 15:29 "i work at suny so all employees were encouraged to come get tested" 15:46 "i could've come in contact.

You really never know.

Just going out and getting groceries, stuff like that" the mayor says about half the student cases are asymptomatic.

Maddie tested negative, and so did lori corna 19:24 "out of precaution for my co workers and my family.

I was with someone who learned while i was with her that her son had tested positive, but he doesn't live with her" their test results, and those of hundreds of others, being tested every five minutes, at three locations over four days... will answer a crucial question for the city of oneonta 7:23 "well the important thing right now is to find out if the spread of the virus has gone beyond the student population into the general community" what has spread throughout the city is a renewed sense of caution 19:54 "well, i think it's causing a lot of us to take pause and go back to the way it was in the beginning where you're definitely more cautious, you go out less frequently and you continue to do what you have to do, wash your hands, wear your mask, it's as simple as that, really while the state is doing the testing, the otsego county health department recommends you call the day before you want to be tested...testing is being done at the armory, foothills performing arts center and st.
