Virtual learning creates additional obstacles for those with special needs.

Our dani masten joins us now with more on what some of these obstacles look like.

Today i spoke with this mom and her son who is special needs and they walked me through some of their personal challenges with virtual learning.

Hope erickson says it has been extremely tough to balance technological issues, keeping her son focused and communicating with the teachers.

I know that he deserves the&i don't know how to say it.

He tries really hard."

Action news now also spoke with the director of student support services diane olsen.

She has finalized procedures that allows students with special needs to make in- person appointments with their teachers that follow california department of education guidelines.

Olsen also told me she is ready to provide this for those students who need the extra help while protecting them from getting covid-19.

Olsen said tomorrowãthe procedures will be sent out to staff that have students who match the criteria for appointment based instruction and then will contact parents to set up appointments.
