A warning from butte county public health - no large gatherings this Labor Day weekend.

Cases continue to climb in butte county - public health says large gatherings are*no* permitted this labor day weekend.

Action news now reporter kristian lopez shows us how local law enforcement agencies plan on enforcing this.

Kristian: if you plan on having a large party this labor day - it could cost you.

Michael rodden/commander, chico police: one of the consquences is that you could be cited and fined.... under a city ordinance that says unruly gatherings are prohibited if they pose a threat to public health.

John land/lives in chico: a family trying to have a party or celebrate labor day weekend should be able to do that and not be held accountable.

Spencer reick/lives in chico: if people are being unsafe it can hurt others.... danette york/public health director: this is no longer a recommendation it is a requirement.

Michael rodden/commander, chico police: ((i took out the first part of this bite)) i want to emphasize we will be dealing with large parties throughout the city not just in one area.

As you know we are in tier one or the widespread area and we want the numbers to come down we believe the large gatherings are fueling the spread of covid.

John land/lives in chico: i think its unconstitutional we should be able to gather in as large as groups as we like.

Spencer reick/lives in chico: if there are parties out in public obviously there are things that can be done there.

Michael rodden/commander, chico police: keep the gatherings or parties small to stop the spread of this we are in this together.

Kristian: public health officials say people shouldn't gather with anyone outside of their immediate household.... in chico kl action news now coverage you can count on.

The first citation would be 100 dollars, the second would be 200 dollars and 500 dollars for each additional violation thereafter within one year.
