The school board announcing today it'll take that long to decide whether it's safe to be back in the classroom.

Some parents...who want kids back in class now...rallied this afternoon outside the district's main building.

Abc 36's monica harkins explains why those parents want their kids back in school now.

But these kids need to be in school."

The parents who showed up are just some of the hundreds of an online facebook group called let them learn fayette county.

"angela costa: we see this is something we have to live with what, when do we get back to normal."

Admin of the online group...greg prince helped set up an open letter to the school board...asking for more transparency.

"greg prince: we think our kids need to go back to school...and if they can't we need to know why.

Concrete reasons why."

Happening at the same time as the rally....the school board's regularly scheduled monday night meeting...it says it is listening to the community....and it's hearing both sides.

"school board sound: for our parents and our families we have heard you."

Governor andy beshear recommended schools waited to go back in-person until at least september 28th superintendent manny caulk says on september 28th fayette county's board will still be discussing when to go back...and reviewing more data.

Nat pop and 7-year-old delaney says it's not all about going back to see her friends.

Delaney: i love like to be in person and you know learn things because the computers are really glitchy and stuff."

Angela: "i understand the statistics, i understand the death rate, i understand getting sick.

I know, multiple patients that have gotten sick.

This is not to live in fear.

This is this is the new virus that we have to live with.

And especially our young people cannot suffer."
