Shady Cove residents return home

Residents who had to evacuate almost a week ago are thankful for the fire crews hard work.

Josh shelton is in shady cove tonight.

How are residents feeling today about the work firefighters have done on the south obenchain fire?

The south obenchain fire remains only 20 percent contained.

But containment lines around the shady cove area are holding.

Thanks to fire crews efforts, shady cove residents are finally back home.

And people are are incredibly thankful.

The evacuations came quickly and suddenly to the shady cove area as the south obenchain fire moved in towards the residents there.

With barely anytime to gather things, one thought was in the mind of the people leaving their homes behind.

Hailey morris says, "i hope my house doesn't burn down."

But thanks to the efforts of fire fighters, residents were able to return home to the shady cove area.

Level 3 evacuations downgraded yesterday to level 2 "be set."

So when residents of shady cove and trail were able to go home, they were relieve to see everything just as they left it.

Hailey morris says, "everything was fine it was just, you know, we're still a little bit concerned, still scared, still not knowing what's going on.

But just thankful and all that stuff to be back at home."

And the fight started to shift with the winds in the firefighters favor today.

For at least a few hours, some smoke lifted and gave better visibility for aircraft to assist the fight.

Don hickman says, "the one good advantage of having the smoke lift is hopefully we can start getting some aircraft in the air and that's where we're really going to pound the fire."

And as crews continue to try and contain the flames, the residents whose homes were protected thanks to their efforts earlier in the week cannot thank firefighters enough.

Hailey morris says, "god bless all of them.

Oh my goodness i couldn't even imagine what it was like.

My heart goes out to all of them completely."

Crews continue to work on containing the fire's spread east in the general direction of butte falls.

Because of that, butte falls remains on level 3 evac orders.
