An Okolona nonprofit group is making sure students have enough food to last them through the weekend.

I'm outside of mission okolona where volunteers make sure every child at okolona elementary leaves with food every friday.

Of the thought" sot: "it's very important they have food so they can, you know learn and focus so that's what motivates us."

Oliver johnson is the project manager for mission okolona.

Johnson said they started giving students food this school year.

He and volunteers wanted to help the many families who are struggling during the pandemic.

Sot: "because of covid 19, a lot of parents are unemployed.

Uh you know okolona is in school district where all of the children are on free or reduced meal plans so there's a need here."

Oliver johnson- mission okolona project manager trt: 15 johnson and volunteers packed bags with food like macaroni and cheese, fruit snacks, and ravioli.

Stand up: volunteers loaded 175 bags of food in their cars and brought them to school staff.

Vo: johnson said the bags are for the 175 students who are attending traditional classes this year.

Lealue triplett, is the principal of okolona elementary school.

She said her students look foward to the bags every week.

Sot: "we we're serving lunches earlier and a student says, when are going to get our bags?

So they are so excited and appreciative of the thought."
