WTVA reporter Sydney Darden spoke with nursing instructors at NEMCC to learn more about their program.

Throughout the pandemic... in this weeks skilled to work,,, we take a look at the nursing program at northeast mississippi community college and see how instructors are fusing patient care and medical practice... me to be a nurse."

Nats mannequin coughing through the simulated screams of practice patients, these future nurses are learning to react under the most intense curcumstances.

Nats "hi how are you feeling today" instructor" oh i didn't have a good night last night" coughing sot heather kirk, instructor, nemcc nursing program- "we are not standing over them.

We are not giving them direction.

We are not telling them what to do.

They are actually in there making their own decision."

The nursing program at northeast mississippi makes sure all graduates leave with two things...a nurse's head.

Sot camille beals, asst.

Division head of health sciences- "they have many hundreds of hours of clinical experiences and they get them from the local clinical and about 11 different agencies.

And a nurse's heart.

Sot- "thats when you haven't eaten breakfast yet.

Other people always come first for nurses."

As a two-year program, students master all aspects of patient care and medicine before earning their registered nurses degree.

Although challenging, studnet jon lamar says it's the perfect opportunity to learn.

Sot jon lamar, nursing student-" we're getting our first clinical experiences and the opportunity to work with real patients.

This program really stresses making sure we do the right thing for our patients" and quickly graduates so they can provide some relief to a pandemic stressed healthcare system.

Sot- "i saw the nurses around the world taking care of people and it inspired me to be a nurse."
