Rochester Flyers waived the participation fee because they understand the financial difficulties many are facing right now.

They accept donations and sell merchandise if you're interested in showing your support.

"*hundred new for you on daybreak.

Many events have been canceled this year and that's no different for "special olympics minnesota."

Teams all across the state have been able to participate in events virtually... but kimt news 3's madelyne watkins is learning it's not quite the same.

Madelyne, there's an event this weekend that athletes with the "rochester flyers" will get to participate in, right?/// tyler.

I spoke with an athlete from rochester flyers and he tells me he can't wait to see his friends this weekend and finally get back to playing sports with them again.

Here's what he had to say.

"can't wait to see you soon.

I'm excited.

Can't wait to see you all soon.

Yeah, soon."

Tony kasner is one of the 350 athletes registered with the rochester flyers.

The team hasn't been able to host in?

"*person games for the past few months now... but special olympics minnesota was able to host virtual events they can participate in.

Tony plays basketball, hockey and bowling... but he tells me basketball is his favorite.

Tomorrow, the rochester flyers will host the "punt, pass and kick" event.

Tony's mom, melanie, tells me he misses his friends... but having the ability to meet "just to stand in a crowd and just see someone on zoom or hear someone on the phone just really helps with that isolation."

Unfortunately, the event isn't open to the public due to covid?

"*19.

But i'm sure pictures and videos will be posted on social media so you can see all thank you madelyne.
