This special edition of kezi nine news.

I'm jillian smukler.

We begin with continuing coverage of this mural we showed you yesterday that continues to spark controversy among many people in the community.

Kezi 9 news reporter kennedy dendy spoke with the*ex-wife of the person depicted in this mural -- about why*she wants it taken down*immediately -- in tonight's top story.

Shayla: "it's definitely reopening wounds."

Shayla landeros saw the mural for the first time saturday.

This comes over a year after her ex husband -- charles landeros was killed*outside of cascade middle school after pulling a handgun and shooting at officers.

Police were trying to arrest charles for causing a disturbance -- during a custody dispute involving their child -- who*witnessed the shooting.

The lane county d-a ruled the shooting as legally justified.

Shayla: "those cops are heroes.

They saved their own lives that day but they saved who knows how many other lives from stray bullets that charlie didn't have control of, and now they're under all this pressure from the community as if they did something wrong, and it's not fair."

The mural shows charles speaking through a bullhorn and a police officer in uniform next to a pig*underneath charles.

Nats- "is this supposed to be my kids?

I don't even understand."

It's located in an alley near west park street in eugene.

Shayla: "there's no purpose for him to be in any kind of picture or mural with a police officer ever.

Bridge: shayla says that one of the most upsetting parts to all of this... was not being notified by anyone who helped bring this mural to life, especially her children who saw this for the first time on tv.

The city says the goal of this project -- was to create a space for multicultural voices and to build trust.

Officials tell us it was designed as part of "fiesta cultural"... which is a celebration of latin x arts, culture and heritage.

And the city of eugene is one of*15 sponsors of the program and they pitched in 500 dollars&.which is one fifth of the total cost.

The remaining money was provided by the lane arts council.

Shayla: "charlie's not a hero.

He's an attempted murderer.

This needs to be removed."

They said a committee of indigenous and latin american community members worked with the mural artist rodolfo redstone serna to design it.
