Okolona is one of several municipalities keeping mask mandates in place even after the governor lifted the statewide mandate.

Under a new curfew after a rash of recent shootings.

I'm outside of west point police department where the assistant police chief said he hopes the new curfew will protect residents from gun violence.

Sot: "if you have people out there shooting, you have innocent people still out there on the street.

We just don't want any innocent victims out there to get hurt."

Assistant police chief kennedy meaders, said the city-wide curfew is from 12 am to 5 am.

Westpoint's mayor and board of selectmen passed the curfew after police chief, avery cook asked them to.

Meaders said west point residents had to follow a county curfew because of the pandemic.

Now, they have to follow this one to help slow down gun violence.

Stand up: assistant chief meaders said just last week, three shootings happened in one day.

Sot: "we're making some good head way when it comes to investigations.

But like anything, it takes time.

And we're going to do what we need to do to try and find these people."

Kennedy meaders- west point assistant police chief trt: 9 the curfew went into effect 12 this morning.

It will be in effect for 30 days.
