C1 3 we've got a fun experiment to help you get in the spirit.

That's right.

Our own science expert and chief futurologist.

Jason lindsay is here in studio with us.

Thanks for coming in.

Thank you for having me.

How are you too?

Speaker 2: it's this time of the year.

When we start to hear spooky things, we see spooky things, but kids don't be concerned because all it is a science, right?

So you ready?

Speaker 1: i know.

I'm like what's going to happen.

Yes.

Yeah.

Is he like your favorite?

Every time?

Is it?

Let's catch cody on fire could be good.

Speaker 2: so in front of you, you have a mystery matter.

Okay.

This is all about matter.

Mix it up for me.

I'm not going to tell you what it is yet.

It could be toilet water.

It could be who knows what?

But you're going to put your hand inside of this mystery matter if we don't know what matter is we describe it by its observable property.

So when you put your hand in there, is it hot?

Is it cold?

Is it wet obviously, because there's water.

You'll just describe it.

So once you do that, then you're going to scrape off your hand when you pull it out and then you're going to smack your hand down on this paper.

This paper is a special paper bleeds.

Okay.

Do you have paper that bleeds at home?

I hope not.

No.

Okay.

Mix it up.

Put your hand in there.

Just like that.

Scooted around.

It's cold.

It's cold.

Anything else?

Is it grainy?

Does it feel grainy?

Speaker 1: really cool.

That's freezing.

Speaker 2: it's just a bucket of ghost.

Underarm, speaker 1: sweat flap.

Okay.

Speaker 2: smack it down in three, two, one.

Keep your hand on the paper.

Okay?

Okay.

When i say one, you release your hand three, two, one.

Yeah.

Pick up your papers.

Show everybody what we just did.

Yeah.

Cause the paper to bleed.

Is your hand really bleeding?

Hold up your hand.

No, it's not.

Nope.

Here's the science behind it.

It's pretty simple.

It's basically an indicator.

The paper is, and it indicates if something's an acid or a base.

So what is this mystery matter?

All it is is water and baking soda.

That's it.

We're safe.

You think so?

Right?

Maybe one more to go when you're ready for it.

You have time for it.

Let's do it.

So i have to beans in here.

It's going to create a foam monster.

This monster only eats kindergartners.

Great, good job.

Brain capacity.

Cause i'm right there.

So it's thick liquid.

I'm going to pour it in there.

We call that viscous in science.

It kind of reminds me.

Speaker 1: looks like syrup to me.

Yeah.

It's very dark.

Here's a lighter one.

Speaker 2: this one.

I don't want kids to do at home because it can get very hot and a few seconds.

You'll observe just that.

I'm going to rapidly mix this up just like this.

And you'll notice the color change.

It goes from that dark color to now a creamy looking color.

I saw my latte.

Yeah, but you don't want to drink this because you might turn into something evil.

Is she evil?

Cody?

I'm going to stay quiet.

Jason looks like an angel over there.

Let's go with that.

Keep mixing it up.

Keep mixing it up.

And now this feels like a sports vice sports play.

But what i will tell you is that it is getting darker and it's not, oh my goodness.

It's never done this, but speaker 1: oh, it's getting bigger the other day.

We only lost one anchor, speaker 2: but you'll notice.

Yes, it is starting to get bigger.

It is growing.

It is growing.

It will continue to grow.

This one is a chemical reaction.

Meaning that i have mixed together two ingredients and i'm getting something new here.

It comes right out of the cup.

Now we'll see what happens because you know, i've got my mask on here to protect you and me and everyone else.

Typically i need air to blow on it from my mouth.

We're not doing that because of covid to keep everyone safe.

But it looks like it's working just the way it's supposed to work.

That's cool.

There we go.

Even without my stinky smelly science guide, breath that smells.

And you're saying my breath smells.

Speaker 1: no, not usually.

Always.

Speaker 2: this means.

Yep.

Yep.

Every day there we go.

I would have you feel a little bit because of this evil pandemic.

We don't want, we want to reduce the number of contacts to everything.

But yeah, it went from a liquid to a solid.

That is solid.

Do you need this later on?

We'll send it here.

He's not behaving himself.

Listen, come in handy.

You can make money, grow like that.

You may have a real business on your hands there.

I wouldn't be here.

Speaker 1: jason has always thanks so much for joining us and don't forget.

Go to our website.

Wtvq.com and clicked on hooked on science because you've got so many fun experiments just like this.

Speaker 2: especially during this pandemic, when somebody kitchens have turned into science labs.

Yeah.

Speaker 1: that's true.

Appreciate it.

Huh?
