Do you think telehealth is here to stay?

Healthcare workers are dealing with a surge in coronavirus cases-- but for day to day health visits, some aren't even going into the clinic.

Kezi 9 news anchor shows us why some say telehealth is here to stay in today's healthy living-- sponsored by oregon medical group.

"governor kate brown's stay home save lives orders caused a big shift in how healthcare providers offer their appointments... dr. gary brandt with oregon medical group says that now, well into the pandemic, telehealth visits are a better option than ever before."

Dr. brandt says there's no reason to be hesitant about visiting your doctor virtually.

"visits are actually quite meaningful and helpful."

He says most visits can be completed via telehealth... but urgent issues that require an exam like orthopedic injuries or diagnosing illness are better suited for in-person visits.

But for those who are extra cautious during the pandemic... providers are willing to be flexible.

"during the early pandemic, we managed those folks by introduction via telehealth and arranging for the other pieces to be done in a seamless fashion."

But telehealth has proven popular for a different demographic too... 9 to fivers who don't have time for an appointment on thier lunch breaks.

"for younger folks and people younger than 65, the vast majority of my telehealth visits are in the car.

So they run out of work, sit in thier car, close thier door, have their visit and go back to work."

At oregon medical group, telehealth is just a text away... patients recieve a link, click on it, and give permission for thier microphone and camera to be used-- a system some believe will be here to stay long after the pandemic ends.

"particularily for those who are afraid to come in, are ill, or have mobility issues, it's become a powerful tool."

"dr. brandt estimates that a third of his patients over 65 need tech help from a friend or family member during their telehealth visits.

So don't be afraid to ask for assistance or offer it up if you want to get a virtual appointment on the books.
