Are getting ready for christmas.

Normally the officers would be preparing for their annual "shop with a cop" event.

However this year, due to covid-19, they've had to make some changes.... you may n expect the conference table at the tippecanoe county sheriff's office to look like this.... but.... it's that time of year again.

"this is my 13th year participating in shop with a cop and it has just grown each year that i've been apart o it."

Detective jeff tislow always enjoys participating in the annual "shop with a cop" event.

However due to social distancing guidelines, and other covid-19 precautions, the event was canceled.

"so historically members of the local law enforcement would meet at one of the larger box stores and we would make an event out of it."

The officers were devastated by the cancellation, especially during this tough year that covid-19 has created.

"everyone has been affected by the pandemic.

Shop with a cop was very near and dear to many members of the community and local law enforcement.

To have it canceled initially was a big blow to a lot of people."

So the sheriff's department had an idea... the department got a list of families, and children, who could some help this holiday season.

"we decided to adopt a child" for the past few weeks, the officer shopped on their own, (and wrapped presents for the child they adopted.

And if you step inside the conference room...... (nat pop( you'll see the officers having some fun while showin off their present wrapping skills for what they're calling "operation blue christmas" the gifts will be given to the kids on sunday.

"we will meet together down here on sunday the 13th and later in the afternoon to star, almost like a parade, to start distributing those gifts" tislow said santa clause is scheduled to be in attendance sunday.
