Registration for the 20-21 special olympics polar plunge is now open.however, it will look a little different at matea park as the pandemic has forced some changes.fox 55's jentill neal tells us what we can expect for the event.

We started with just ourselves the first year, and last year we added some friends and family.
I think we had a group of almost ten people join us with rachel and i.

She's usually the only one in the group who goes under water."this year, more than 3,000 people like rachel and john braved the cold and took the plunge.
Next year, instead of having everyone take the plunge within 15 minutes everyone will be split in groups.>00:10:56-00:11:12 "the event is entirely outdoors.
We do want people to wear mask especially when they are in close quarters of signing in.
We will have a table there with health checks to make sure no one has a fever and keep an eye on things."and for those who don't feel comfortable coming to matea park in person..
There's a virtual option this year called earn your wings.> 00:12:01-00:12:38"this is the first time we've created a theme around it.
The entire state will be rallying around it for the earn your wings hashtag.
The idea is to flood that hashtag with the special olympics and the polar plunge to raise money even beyond the polar plunge season."like many nonprofits, the polar plunge is hoping to get support throughout the year.
