Is off today.

The lee county n-double-a-c-p wants the tupelo police department to better train its officers.

This after officers held a black businessman following a tuesday shoplifting at the mall.

That businessman, wesley wells, was exercising near the mall tuesday when officers grabbed him.

Mayor jason shelton said wells matched the description of someone wanted for the crime, but wells had nothing to do with it.

The mayor apologized to wells and suspended two officers without pay.

As for wells, he posted on facebook in part the following -- "we've got some major problems here.

Hopefully, that can change."
