Torrential rains cause heavy flooding in many streets in the Sudan's capital Khartoum on Aug 8, 2021 as Nile levels surge.

Some 12,000 people in eight out of the country’s 18 states had been affected and over 800 homes have reportedly been destroyed, according to local press reports.

In the capital Khartoum, which lies at the confluence of the Blue Nile and the White Nile, the river recorded a level of 16.86 metres on Saturday, which exceeds the flood level by 36 centimetres, up from 24 centimetres on Thursday.
