The U.S. also reportedly said that it is exploring a way to combat China's aggressive trade practices.

In 2001, China had promised to open up to foreign markets when it joined the WTO.

China has instead retained and expanded its state-led, non-market approach to the economy and trade.

China’s policies and practices challenge the premise of the WTO’s rules and cause serious harm to workers and businesses around the world, Katherine Tai, U.S. Trade Representative, via Al Jazeera.

According to the trade office, the U.S. is investigating new ways , “to use domestic trade tools strategically as needed in order to achieve a more level playing field with China for U.S. workers and businesses.’’
