Christmas Eve at Harrington’s Toy Store – a glittering wonderland filled with clamouring kids, frazzled shoppers and all the magic and madness of the silly season.
DERRICK HARRINGTON, ill-fated owner of the business, surveys the store.
It looks festive enough but in truth business is not going well and he may have to take desperate action... Teenager PETE is working the register and dealing with difficult and demanding customers while heavily pregnant security guard, GLADYS, has her eyes trained on the CCTV cams, searching for thieving kids whom she tracks like a high-level CIA operative.
In the vast toy store, two slightly feral kids WOMBAT (10) and BRADY (8) case the joint with rat-like cunning.
Brady is a pint- sized evil-genius who is more connected to gadgets than people.
Wombat is her loyal but clumsy brother with a nervous farting condition.
Together they expertly shoplift the best toys on the shelves.
But Gladys is onto them, catching them red- handed.
Meanwhile, out front of the store, SHEZ (20s, tattooed, rough around the edges) and NAN (an older woman, strong silent type) approach Pete at the counter.
In a flash, they reveal they are armed and demand he announce on the PA that Harrington’s is now closed.
As unsuspecting customers leave, Shez and Nan seal the doors and drag Derrick out to reveal their intent - this is a Ransom!
They call Derrick's successful but estranged sister, TERRI, and demand money, holding Pete and Derrick hostage.
