Foreign secretary defends appointment of BBC chairman

James Cleverly insists there was no conflict of interest over the appointment of Richard Sharp as BBC Chairman after reportedly helping Boris Johnson to secure a loan when he was prime minister.

The foreign secretary describes Mr Sharp as “an incredibly experienced and effective leader” who is now doing “a very, very important and good job at the helm of the BBC”.
