Vera Bradley posted a surprise profit for the second quarter, sending its stock up nearly 20 percent after the Wednesday announcement. The Fort Wayne, Indiana-based maker of colorfully patterned bags and accessories had net income of $7.2 million, or 42 cents a share, in the quarter, up from income of $5.9 million, or 17 cents a share, in the same period a year ago, per MarketWatch.
