Andrew Wasylyk Shares Beautiful 'Last Sunbeams Of Childhood' Video
It's a gorgeous introduction to his next project...
Scottish composer and songwriter *Andrew Wasylyk* is on something of a role.
Playing with universal themes rooted in specific localities, he completes an opening triptych with the release of new album ‘Fugitive Light And Themes Of Consolation’ later this year.
It's certainly got some measure of competition. Opening with two marvellous records, Andrew Wasylyk's latest - 2019's 'The Paralian' - was nominated for the Scottish Album Of The Year Award.
New single 'Last Sunbeams Of Childhood' finds the songwriter easing into fresh climes, with that divine treated keyboard line recalling Boards Of Canada at their most overtly melodic.
The climbing guitar part provides a neat counterpoint, while the breathy saxophone solo adds colour, shade, and definition to Wasylyk's work.
Film maker and musician Tommy Perman constructs the video, filmed in rural Perthshire around the cottage where lives.
The landscape provides a gorgeous backdrop, while the video rises to become a celebration of childhood's innate exuberance and glee.

"I’m a big fan of Tommy Perman’s creative process and feel lucky to have collaborated with that inventiveness again. A concept and plan were in place for the video when recent events, like for many people, meant reevaluating everything. Our options had evaporated."
"For me, being forced to simplify our approach sort of liberated the video and encouraged Tommy to distill something more honest, joyous and hopeful than we, perhaps, would have ended up with."

I'm incredibly fortunate to be living in rural Perth and Kinross. I understand how privileged my family are to have safe access to green space at a time when many have been confined to small indoor spaces and without gardens."
