From the Archives, 1966: The first sod is turned at VFL Park

In 1966, construction on the Victorian Football League's new, grand stadium began. A small crowd was on hand to see the president of the VFL, Sir Kenneth Luke, turn the first sod before the bulldozers moved in. The ground would host VFL and AFL games until the 2000 season, when it was replaced by the Docklands Stadium.
