Character issues may hurt Omar Vizquel, Curt Schillling’s Hall of Fame chances

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Omar Vizquel and Curt Schilling were once well positioned on the 2021 BBWAA Hall of Fame ballot. Vizquel, the Indians former shortstop, wasn’t going to gain induction to Cooperstown when this year’s ballot was announced on at 6 p.m. Tuesday, but he was in line to make a big jump toward the needed 75% of the required vote. Last year Vizquel’s vote total was an encouraging 52.6%. A jump to 60% to 65% would not have been surprising considering the lack of “can’t miss candidates” on this year’s ballot Schilling, 11-2 with a 2.23 ERA in his postseason career, finished with 70% of the vote last year.
