UP: No FIR, no conversion, but Muslim man held for ‘love jihad’ probe

A Muslim man, 27, and a Hindu woman, 24, fell in love, eloped and started living together. Their parents, while not supportive, didn’t press charges. The woman had not been misled about the man’s religious identity. But now, under pressure from right-wing groups against what they said was a case of “love jihad”, police have been holding the man for questioning and have sent the woman to a shelter.
