India cases fall but deaths high; CFR rises in May

India reported 3,43,122 fresh cases and close to 4,000 deaths on Thursday. While the seven-day average of daily cases has fallen steadily from a peak of 3.91 lakh on Saturday to 3.64 lakh, indicating that the peak of the second wave may have been reached, average daily fatalities have risen past the 4,000 mark to 4,039, reports Amit Bhattacharya. The CFR in the past week has climbed to 1.1%, up from 0.7% during April.
