Shyam Saran Negi became the most famous person in Himachal Pradesh after the Election Commission of India tracked him in 2012 and announced that he was Independent India’s first voter. Just five years short of a century then, Negi revelled in his newfound fame as the most faithful soldier of democracy, who never missed his date with polls. Even two days before his death, Negi cast his vote for the latest Himachal assembly elections from his residence in Kalpa village on account of poor health.
