Following the death of a Class IX girl after consuming chicken shawarma from a restaurant in Namakkal town, the health minister has ordered an inquiry against the district designated officer of the state food safety department. The minister has also directed officials to inspect all hotels to ensure compliance with government guidelines. Samples have been collected from the restaurant and sent for testing, with the results expected within a week. In Chennai, cooked and raw meat has been destroyed and eateries inspected, leading to temporary closures and notices for violations. In Salem, rotten chicken and banned items were seized from non-vegetarian hotels.
