Storm after the lull: In Punjab, 1,068 farm fire cases in a day

Crop residue burning in Punjab has increased again, with 1,068 new farm fire cases recorded, the highest so far this season. The cumulative count now stands at 5,254. The worst affected district is Amritsar, with 1,060 cases, followed by Tarn Taran, Patiala, Sangrur, and Ferozepur. However, the number of cases this year is lower compared to the past two years. The state government data shows that there were 1,898 cases reported on the corresponding day in 2022 and 1,353 in 2021.
