Govt plans to drain out water to salvage Silkyara tunnel project

The government plans to drain out the water accumulated in the area of the Silkyara tunnel project in Uttarkashi, where 41 workers were stuck for 17 days. Delay in pumping the water out can cause more damage to the already excavated portion. Excavation can now be carried out only from the Barkot side. The contractor has emphasized the need to drain out water to protect the excavation. The plan includes sending a worker inside through an already laid pipe to switch on the motor and drain out the water with full safety precautions.
