Union mantri gets interim protection against arrest

Supreme Court on Friday granted interim protection from arrest to Union minister of state Nisith Pramanik in an attempt to murder case against him and directed West Bengal government not to take any coercive action against him. A bench of Justices Bela M Trivedi and Pankaj Mithal granted the protection after Pramanik's lawyer and senior advocate P S Patwalia submitted that situation in West Bengal is volatile and he could be arrested despite his pre-arrest bail plea scheduled for hearing in HC on January 22.
