(MENAFN - The Peninsula) The Peninsula Doha: A six-member Qatari shooting team, led by Tokyo-bound Mohammed Al Rumaihi, is currently taking part in the Shotgun World Cup in Lonato, Italy. The Qatari contingent, accompanied by Mohammed Ahmed Taher, Executive Director of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association, also includes prominent shooters Saeed Abusharib (Trap Men), Rashid Hamad Al Athba (Trap Men) Abdulaziz Al Attiyah (Skeet Men), Nasser Al Hamidi (Trap Men) and Ali Al Ishaq (Skeet Men). Al Rumaihi, who has already booked a ticket to the Summer Olympics, will compete in Men's Trap event. The 10-day event which kicked off yesterday, sees a record number of over 400 shooters from 57 countries in action. Chef de Mission Taher confirmed that the Qatari team is ready to make its presence felt during the event and the shooters are targeting good results. 'The event will see a number of World and Olympic champions, but we have experienced shooters who are ready to battle for medals. Our shooters have gained a lot of experience over the years thanks to the involvement of Qatar Olympic Committee, our main supporter. Thanks to QOC, we had a lot of opportunities to compete along with top shooters in the world and gain experience while boosting our confidence. So we have confidence in the capabilities of our athletes to a great extent, as our team includes outstanding shooters, Taher said. Champion shooter Al Rumaihi said that preparations went well ahead of the World Cup which will see many international stars and world champions. It is a huge competition by all standards, but we are striving to achieve honourable results among the top stars of the sport, and we have faith our abilities and skills.
