Somalia: 16 al-Shabab rebels killed by Somali army

(MENAFN) On Monday, Jun. 14 an SNA officer stated that a drive in the southern region of Lower Juba conducted by the Somali National Army (SNA) left 16 al-Shabab rebels dead and wounded another 15 on Sunday night. Administration forces caused casualties among the militants in the drive in Berhani and Libo Kus, villages on the suburbs of Kismayo town, said Arab Dheeg Ahmed, SNA commander for Unit 16th, to SNA radio. Ahmad noted: "our operation was successful. Al-Shabab fighters attempted to resist the forces, but we overpowered them, killing 16 of them and injuring 15 others." He stated the army will go on with its drives aiming at other militant cells in the area.
