VIDEO: Dangerous Driving sentence, Cornwall

Devon and Cornwall Police have released video footage of a 120mph pursuit in Cornwall.

It follows the sentencing of Thomas Lovett, 38, of Penzance, who was charged with dangerous driving, possession of heroin, possession of cocaine and driving without insurance on February 23, 2020.

Officers had attempted to pull over a red Mazda car driven by Lovett in Camborne when it sped up and led them on a 10-mile pursuit.

The vehicle travelled at speeds of up to 120mph and also veered on to the wrong side of the road to overtake other cars.

Police were forced to deploy a stinger device which popped the Mazda’s tyres and the car eventually pulled in.

Lovett was arrested and charged and appeared in Truro Crown Court on January 21, 2021.

He was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, suspended for two years, and disqualified from driving for two years after which he will have to take an extended test.

The court also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs that were found in his possession.

Speaking after the hearing, DC Ian Ridge said: “The driving highlighted in this case was exceptionally dangerous, being at both high speed and on roads where there were many other drivers.

“We will not tolerate such reckless behaviour on our roads and will use all resources necessary to stop such drivers and bring them to justice.”
