*SAVANNAH, GA / ACCESSWIRE / June 30, 2021 / *Israel is one of the most highly-vaccinated countries in the world right now. According to the Wall Street Journal, about 80% of citizens over the age of 16 are fully inoculated - but that didn't stop the reinstatement of the country's indoor mask requirements this past week, linked to the sudden spike in new daily cases caused by the dangerously contagious Delta variant. This new strain is more transmissible and dangerous than others, and is already present (according to White House Covid advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci) in approximately 20% of cases here in the U.S. What's more troubling is the CDC estimation that these new, more severe cases attributable to Delta in the U.S. are anticipated to double every two weeks to near 100% of active infections by the end of July.

US physician Dr. Jerry Williams, a neurologist, is especially devastated by these staggering forecasts. Williams is equally frustrated because he invented a device that he believes could save millions of lives, but he has spent the last year waiting for FDA approval.

"I can't tell you what it does to me,' Dr. Williams says, 'When I have something that could save so many patients while also protect doctors and nurses, but I can't get it to the people that need it."

Williams invented the IsoPro Chamber - a portable, negative-pressure medical procedure isolation chamber early in the pandemic to protect medical professionals and patients during procedures. He was awarded a provisional patent back in April 2020.

"I was not satisfied with the options to keep our employees and patients safe during this worldwide pandemic and agonized over the lack of PPE. This device solves a lot of problems that medical professionals are wrestling with on a daily basis when they treat patients in this COVID-19 environment."

The device is a clear chamber with sleeved/gloved access portals that go over the patient's head and upper torso. Using negative pressure and HEPA filters to filter the air going to and coming from the patient, the IsoPro Chamber allows the patient to be cared for while keeping the patient's illness from contaminating the healthcare worker. Additionally, unlike traditional intubation boxes, which can concentrate the virus and contaminants for the patient inside, therefore, potentially increasing the risk for the patient, by contrast, the IsoPro Chamber's negative pressure and HEPA filter pull the virus and contaminants away from the patient.

When Williams showed other medical professionals how the device worked, they were elated. Lyn Young, a 17-year veteran ER nurse, said "IsoPro is a real game-changer. Fighting this disease made our jobs even harder and a lot more stressful. Having these devices would be a boost to those of us on the front lines."

With the help of Congressman Buddy Carter, Williams applied for an Emergency Use Application with the US Food and Drug Administration. Unfortunately, after almost a year of wrangling with the FDA, he was informed that an Emergency Use Application was 'not a priority'.

"That was a huge blow," Williams recounts, "I will never understand nor be able to justify the FDA's actions. We need to get as many of these made and to the front lines and in the hands of as many medical professionals as possible. The tragedy lies not only in the deaths of the civilians but in the deaths of tens of thousands of healthcare workers worldwide that could have been saved with the use of this device. It would have been a game-changer early on here in the US; it could've saved so many people in India and South America. It could save the thousands of people across the globe who will now be fighting an even-more dominant viral strain."

Facing the especially dense outbreaks that low-vaccinated regions of the U.S. are sure to see in the immediate future, Dr. Williams is more determined than ever to get the necessary FDA approval he needs. His team is in place and ready to start the manufacturing process. As the death toll continues to climb, Williams knows every day is crucial. He prays he will get a chance to make a difference before it's too late.
