Colombia steps up to hold UN biodiversity talks

Colombia on Tuesday offered to hold next year's UN talks on biodiversity after Turkey backed out, citing the need to recover from earthquakes. The COP16 biodiversity summit would follow up on a landmark deal at the last talks in 2022 in Montreal which promised to secure 30 percent of the planet as a protected zone by 2030. Colombia made its announcement during the separate COP28 climate
