Vatican rejects doctrine used to justify colonial abuse

The Vatican has formally annulled edicts from the 15th century that enabled Europeans to colonise non-Christian territories. Campaigners called for the so-called Doctrine of Discovery to be rescinded as it justified abuses against Indigenous peoples viewed as inferior in the Americas.
