Woman killed in Heber Springs

((donna))a northern arkansas town -- shocked after a woman is murdered inside her home -- and her son is the one sitting behind bars.

Marci manley was in heber springs today -- marci this is the first homicide anyone can recall there in recent memory?

((marci))for the town with just over seven thousand people...the news that a murder had happened on their sleepy streets definitely comes as a shock.

While heber springs police haven't confirmed the details of her death...or that her son sitting behind bars is accused in the thing everyone seems certain that it's the type of tragedy they don't expect in their small town.

[brenda mcdonald, neighbor] "Yeah i guess that's what you would call it a tragedy "on saturday...brenda mcdonald...telling friends how safe her neighborhood is...[brenda mcdonald, NEIGHBOR]the very next morning i wake up and see cop cars and everything according to heber springs police chief bobby walker, officers received a call 54-year-old marcia dye had been found in her home... [bobby walker, heber springs police department] this is the first homicide that i know about since I've been chief, and I've been here four years the police report -- saying inside the home showed signs of a struggle...and marcia's son -- 19 year old cameron...listed as suspect number one.

[bobby walker, heber springs police DEPARTMENT]We have officers right now who have not been to bed they've been working on this mcdonald saying she saw cameron several days before -- [brenda mcdonald, neighbor]i know he came back on Friday and that was the first time i had seen him in Forever.

He was over there friday, yeah by monday afternoon he was behind bars...arrested for capital murder.

[bobby walker, heber springs police department]" we think we have the person who committed the crime in jail " heber springs police -- keeping information released during the search efforts and afterward to a minimum...with many on social media saying they wanted to know more... [bobby walker, heber springs police department] "This all happened very very quick in just a few hours - we were trying to spend our time to catch the suspect "at this point -- those who knew marcia dye..a nurse..and caregiver to the neighborhood cats... [brenda mcdonald, neighbor] there's no rhyme or reason we don't know anything until it's our time to know i guessSAY what they do know for the world is a little less wonderful without her in it.

((marci))friends of marcia say she didn't want to see anyone in pain or suffering...and was willing to give to just about anyone in need.

Her body is being sent to the state crime lab for an official cause of death.

And police said they planned to send the case file to the prosecutor for formal charges to be filed.

((donna))you mention police aren't gving many details and some people wanted more information.

Did the police chief explain why that was?

((marci))he did say that once they i'd their suspect they issued a bolo to law enforcement -- but they spent the majority of their time focusing on trying to catch him...which they did early this morning out in the county.

There was a lot of misinformation being shared on social media -- and most people seemed to just want the facts to know if they should approach this as an armed and dangerous man on the loose so they knew how to keep themselves and their families safe.
