Florida Keys Faces Housing Shortage After Hurricane Irma

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has provided temporary housing in the Florida Keys since November.

Much of mainland Florida escaped major damage from Hurricane Irma, but the Keys were devastated.

Irma destroyed almost 1,200 homes in Monroe County, Reuters reports.

That number excludes trailers, which are a very popular form of housing in the Keys.

Due to a lack of affordable, safe housing, many residents have been forced to leave.
