You know how Donald Trump used to say polls were rigged?
SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) DONALD TRUMP: "They are phony polls put out by phony media." Well Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen now admits he paid a firm to manipulate online polling data "at the direction of and for the sole benefit of" Trump.
This admission after the Wall Street Journal reported that Cohen commissioned the owner of RedFinch Solutions to write a computer script to repeatedly vote for Trump in a February 2015 Drudge Report poll on potential Republican candidates.
And that in Cohen’s Trump organization office he reportedly gave the man a “blue Walmart bag containing between $12,000 and $13,000 in cash” The Journal reported Cohen also commissioned the man to do the same for a 2014 CNBC online poll identifying the country's top business leaders, although Trump was unable to break the top 100 candidates.
Trump then tweeted that “The #CNBC 25 poll is a joke.
I was in 9th place and taken off” and “Stupid poll should be canceled—no credibility.” Cohen also reportedly asked the man to create the Twitter account @WomenForCohen, which fawned over Cohen, calling him a hero, a stud, and #handsome #sexy.
Last month Cohen was sentenced to three years in prison for his role in making illegal hush-money payments to Trump’s alleged mistresses to help Trump’s 2016 campaign and lying to Congress about a proposed Trump Tower project in Russia.
On Thursday he again expressed his remorse for his past efforts, tweeting “I truly regret my blind loyalty to a man who doesn't deserve it."Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani told Reuters "The president has no knowledge of the polls being rigged.”
