Vatican Summit on Clergy Sex Abuse Will Start This Week
Catholic Church leaders from around the world will meet in Rome this week to discuss preventing clergy sexual abuse.
Dozens of senior bishops will convene at the Vatican for a four-day summit starting Thursday.
According to CNN , the meeting will include speeches by Pope Francis, small group discussions and a penitential ceremony involving sex abuse survivors, among other events.
A Vatican spokesperson told the outlet, "We must look this monster in the face without fear if we really want to conquer it." Officials say they hope the summit will be a turning point as the church continues to respond to the ongoing sexual abuse scandal.
Last week, Pope Francis dismissed ex-CardinalTheodore McCarrick , who was removed from public ministry after an investigation found credible allegations he sexually abused a teenager decades ago.
