Southeast conference rivals spring grove and houston boys basketball teams meet for a third and final time this season as they square off in the section quarterfinals.

Spring grove winning the two regular season games by 16 and 27 points.

But crazy things.... ... can happen in the playoffs.

------------------ spring grove survives the upset winning 45-42 over houston.

"first of all, congratulat ions to houston, great season.

They put up one heck of a fight at the end there.

They came out, they played good defense, they made us take some hard shots, so credit to them.

On us, we just missed some lay-ups, did not play our best offensively or defensively, so we gotta come back this week, focus up on us and get ready for saturday."

La crescent- hokah playing in the section one two-a quarterfinal against rochester lourdes.

-------------------- la crescent- hokah gets the scoring started here... dribble hand- off.... and luke schwartzhoff drills the three... he had 24.

---------------------- then... it's zach todd taking it hard to the rack... he goes off glass for the bucket... lancers on top.

---------------------- lancers in transition now... isaac peterson hesitates then blows by his defender to force a rochester lourdes timeout on the floor... ------------------ la crescent- hokah controls things from the start and wins 74-58.

What a matchup we get thursday at the wiaa girls basketball state tournament.

Aquinas versus milwaukee academy of science which will feature two of the top players in the state.

The novas' have the state's leading scorer... ... and marquette committ shemera williams. the blugolds counter with lexi donarski....an iowa state committ and the 10th leading scorer in the state.

But it will take a full team effort for either team to win.

Aquinas head coach dave donarski says a tough schedule this season helped his team find it's new identity after graduating a giant core from last year's state championship squad.

"it's super exciting considering we loss a really good senior class.

To get back to state and continue their legacy was really important for us."

"we had a good conference schedule and then when you are scheduling teams like dowling catholic (ia) or hopkins (mn) you are going to get everybody's best shot against some of the best talent in the midwest.

So i hope that has prepared us to stay relaxed, stay solid in what we want to do defensively and offensively and success will follow."

"playing harder teams puts us in different situations and gets you better for big games like state."
