Apple strikes back at Spotify

Apple struck back at Spotify, intensifying the app feud.

It says it treats all developers who use its App Store fairly.

It rebutted Spotify's complaint filed with EU antitrust regulators that Apple unfairly limits rivals to favor its own music streaming service.

Apple says it has approved and distributed nearly 200 app updates for Spotify.

That resulted in more than 300 million downloaded copies of the Spotify app.

Spotify has launched a website to publicize its claims. It says Apple denies consumers true choice by rejecting and delaying upgrades to the Spotify app and imposing a 30 percent fee for items sold through the App Store which Apple's music service doesn't have to pay.

Apple says that Spotify left out that that revenue share fee drops to 15 percent after the first year of a subscription.

And it says the majority of Spotify's customers use the free version of the app which makes no contribution to the App Store.

Spotify shares rose more than 2 percent Friday.

Apple shares rallied modestly.
