Election since 2000.
And while the outcome of the wisconsin supreme court election last week isn't even official yet... but some politicians are already focusing on wisconsin for the 20-20 presidential race.
News 8's scott behrens explains why voters in our area could determine the outcome for the entire election.
Some analysts say there are six swing states that will likely determine who wins the 20-20 presidential election.
One of those states is wisconsin... and arguably the most important region is right here in the western part state.
((pac)) anthony chergosky assistant professor of political science university of wisconsin la crosse "western wisconsin is really a region that could decide the elections."
Anthony chergosky an assistant professor of political science at the university of wisconsin la crosse says local voters may just decide the next president of the united states we are living in what might be the decisive state in the presidential election and western wisconsin is perhaps the swingiest part of what could be the decisive state."
Chergosky says things are even more up in the air after the wisconsin supreme court race "if you look at democrats nationally the democrats feel pretty good about where they're at in michigan and pennsylvania, but i think democrats look at what happened in the wisconsin supreme court race and i think they're a bit alarmed with what that might indicate for 2020."
Many analysts were expecting liberal-backed lisa neubauer to beat brian hagedorn... the favorite among conservatives... by a pretty wide margin... since that didn't happen the la crosse county democratic party says they just have to work harder "we have to redouble our efforts and continue to contact voters."
The party is planning to invest a lot a lot of resources in western wisconsin "the turnout in la crosse and eau claire is very important."
The la crosse county republican party is also setting up for a big fight in our area bill feehan chairman 3rd congressional district republican party of wisconsin "the elections are so close in our state so this is going to come down to which side wants it more."
Both parties say... what really matters is how many volunteers they can get to campaign "i would just say to people, don't sit around and wait for the republican party to do it, it's up to the grass roots people across the state to get involved and try and help their candidate win."
Chergosky says every presidential candidate will be watching wisconsin very closely chergosky "get ready for candidates galore, get ready for candidate spending galore, we're going to be seeing a lot of the candidates."
Speaking of seeing the candidates... bernie sanders just announced he's coming to madison this friday.
And as you just heard this will most likely be just one of many presidential candidates stopping in wisconsin .
And let's not forget milwaukee is going to be the site of the 20-20 democratic national convention ?how are both parties planning to win over wisconsin voters?
