People across the country wore orange yesterday to show their c1 3 support for national gun violence awareness day.

And today locals kept the awareness going with a peace walk.

Abc36's alexus larson tells us survivors stories.

Losing anyone close to you at any time is hard - and several mother's have buried their own children because they were senselessly killed.

"it's life changing.

It's been 2 years and we still haven't gotten together."

Marita cole lost her son joshua when he was only 26 years old after he was shot on anderson street in lexington.

"he's the one that was killed but he was not the target."

Marita says josh was a person who was always there for big and little moments in life - and it breaks her heart even more knowing his kids won't get to grow up with their father.

"don't let it get personal for you to get involved."

Deana howard feels the same way.

She also lost her son, sean two years ago.

He was killed on richmond road in lexington when he was only 19.

"that phone call is the worst phone call you can receive in your life.

You brought these children into the world and somebody else decides to take them out."

These mother's are taking action and are raising awareness about gun violence.

They say having the peace walk shows them they're not alone and there is a community fighting for a safer city.

"it's so nice to know that all these people are here in support for survivors and want this gun violence to stop."

The hope is one day the violence will stop - but until that day - they'll continue to walk, wear orange, and be advocates for their kids.

In lexington, alexus larson, abc36 news.

A scary situation overnight in northeast lexington as some people had shots fired at their home..

Lexington police say the shooting happened on wells court just after midnight..

3-4 shots were fired at the home and police aren't releasing the names of any suspects at this time..

No one was injured..

### a man in boyle county was arrested after deputies say he led them on a chase..

The boyle county sheriff's office says christopher wilson of junction city was seen driving on bonta lane, even though he had a suspended license from a dui..

Deputies say wilson led them on a chase before turning into a driveway and going through several backyards..

After corning wilson..

He refused to get out even after a taser was pulled out..

Deputies say they eventually forced wilson out of the car and arrested him after a brief scuffle..

He's charged with fleeing or evading police, wanton endangerment, reckless driving, resisting arrest, and operating on dui suspended license..

#### downtown winchester was shut down for a festival that was all about beer cheese.

The street was packed as attendees could buy beer cheese bucks to taste all the different kinds.

There were thirteen professional beer cheese competitors along with several local vendors.

One attendee has been coming to the festival for nine years - and says she loves the taste test.

"tasting all the great beer cheeses and all the different flavors, and how they can all be so similiar but also different at the same time, and voting for your favorite one every year."

Beer cheese vendors are competing to be named the best of the best - and it's all up to the people to decide.

Nothing says summer like a bbq fest downtown..

Despite the rain showers looming... bbq fest still took place in lexington..

The family friendly atmosphere featured live music, bourbon, and as we said before, plenty of bbq..

### we have disturbing news out of bullitt county after a woman finds two of her therapy pigs beaten to death..

The owner spoke with robert bradfield from our affiliate station whas..

He brings us more from bullitt county..

Rb in: the pigs were used as emotional support animals for the woman's daughter..and were part of a non-profit that visited patients in hospitals.

Two of the three pigs were found dead inside a backyard shed in shepherdsville thursday...believed to have been beaten."

3:26 "come on.

Come on baby."

A calming voice after what sunnie howell says was a violent night.

59:14 "they didn't deserve it at all."

Howell says when she got home thursday night she found two of her prized therapy pig, honey and pygrawk dead inside this backyard shed.

Their injuries so gruesome, we had to blur their faces.

Howell says their teeth were knocked out possibly by a sledgehammer.

1:00:33 "i don't know why someone would want to destroy something that was so positive in so many people's lives."

The only survivor - this 8 month old named gypsy... who was uninjured.

Howell says the pigs provided emotional support to her daughter and visited hospitals...a kind of therapy for patients.

She even made this sign outside her home...she believes a neighbor targeted the pigs.

1:01:12 "i'm hoping someone has a heart big enough that they can hear something.

Somebody is going to slip up.

Somebody is going to brag.

Somebody is going to tell their friends."

Rb out: "howell says the pigs didn't fight each other, based on the injuries and their past behavior.

She now plans to install some security features around her home.

She's also made a report with the bullitt county sheriff's office.

Robert bradfield 11 at 11."

Dry conditions in the west and very c1 3 wet conditions in the south east causing two very different problems. here's elizabeth hur with the details.

Torrential rains pounding parts of the south east.

In wake county, north carolina - flood waters racing over several roads - leaving some impassable officer nats: you gotta turn around and go back - the roads flooded and completely washing out this road.

Near raleigh -- a sinkhole opening on a highway after heavy rains slammed this area.

Sot kimberly van randall: "the roads are flooded neighbors they're backyards are completely flooded and under water."

Waters rising so quickly -- first responders rushed to push stranded drivers to safety.

Similar conditions in virginia - meant barricades along roads - warning drivers of dangers ahead.

Mos : "i don't want to be stuck and have my car just kind of floating out there."

In arkansas, the record breaking rainfall triggering historic flooding of several rivers - president trump approving a major disaster declaration for the area.

And rescuers in tennessee pulled several people from the swollen waters after flash flooding filled two churches with several feet of water.

Meanwhile in the west -- heat and dry weather are wreaking havoc.

Firefighters in arizona are struggling to contain a fast- moving wildfire.

The "mountain fire" has already scorched more than 72- hundred acres in the tonto national forest.

Crews battling this blaze from the air -- using water and fire retardant -- hoping to slow it down.

In northern california -- a smaller wildfire forced dozens of residents to evacuate and power preemptively shut off to thousands of customers -- in the danger zone to try to reduce the risk of fire.
