Omar Awan was a Tesla lessee who died in February after his Model S sedan caught fire.
Now, his family is suing the electric-car maker.
According to Business Insider, they allege "the Model S' design was defective and unreasonably dangerous." Onlookers were unable to rescue Awan because the door handles prevented them from opening the car's doors.
The Model S has distinctive door handles that are flush with the vehicle's sheet metal unless the key fob is nearby.
