Madison homeowner says school construction causing major flooding

You're taking a look at construction of a new elementary school for madison city schools.

It's off wall triana highway next to kroger.

But it's also right next to a neighborhood.

Waay31's megan reyna learned why one homeowner claims it's causing costly issues.

Megan says:"this morning, this backyard looked more like a swimming pool, the tipton family says they have been dealing with flooding, but they think part of the reason it has gotten so bad is because of construction right behind their home."

Michael tipton called this neighborhood in madison home for more than 30 years.

He's seen this piece of land go from a cotton field to a construction site.

While he's supportive of a new elementary school... he says the construction is causing his backyard to flood.

Tipton says he's talked with the city and the construction company about this issue.

He said they installed a pipe on the side of his house to help.

But he says it isn't working.

Tipton says:"i don't think they really realize how much water comes out of this neighborhood, to go out into that field so, they said they did their studies on it, i guess we will see what happens."

Now tipton is replacing two sheds destroyed by flood waters... and is dealing with snakes as well.

We brought his concerns to madison city schools.

We are waiting for a response.

The new school is set to open up - fall of 2021.
